Live Role-Play
Here you can view the different LARP groups that visits Hjelm Dyb-Festival. Further below you can read about the Live-Action Role-Play taking place at Hjelm Dyb Festival.
What is the game about?
The Battle of Helm's Deep is deeply engraved in the memories of Rohan’s people.
A festival to honor the fallen warriors and the alliance with the Elves is well-deserved. However, dark forces are always at work.
A Necromancer seeks to rebuild the Uruk-hai army that lost the Battle of Helm’s Deep. With a resurrected force of 10,000 soldiers, darkness will return, as the Dwarves are too far away, the Elves have either left or are hiding in the woods, and humanity is weakened—led by a new King of Gondor and a new Queen of Rohan.
The game is structured so that both sides will have time for roleplay in their own camps as well as take part in various battle scenarios over both days.
Each day features a large battle, the outcome of which is not predetermined. Visitors may also participate in the large battle.
For safety reasons, we need to know how many people are joining each side and whether they will be bringing their own weapons.
You can register by buying special tickets. You can buy 1, 2, or 3 revivals.
The Roleplaying Game 2025
Humans and Elves gather once more at Hornburg (Helm’s Deep), not only to remember the fallen in the Battle of the Hornburg, but also to strengthen the political relations with the remaining Woodland Elves, who are tucked away in their woodland fortresses.
The Evil Forces were repelled during their last attempt to resurrect the army that was lost during the Battle of the Hornburg, so the Necromancer was banished to the depths of the forest.
The Game Master is located in a tent near the center of the game area towards the festival ("Spilmesterens Telt"). In Spilmesterens Telt, you can reach out to get information about the LARP. This is also where you can buy tickets for the Great Battle. The palisades for the Camp of the Good can be made from donated pallets and scrap wood that’s painted. The palisades can be used as cover.
Title: Alliances at the Hornburg – Destinies in the Shadows of the Forest
Setting: The year is 2025, and the world is on the verge of a new conflict. Humans and Elves have gathered at the Hornburg (Helm’s Deep) to honor the fallen warriors and strengthen the ties between them – especially with the Woodland Elves that have been isolated in their protected forests. But the previous dark threat from the Necromancer is far from forgotten.
Plot: Following his defeat in the last battle, where the Necromancer’s attempt to revive his army of Uruk-hai was foiled, he’s now trying to make a new alliance with sinister creatures of the forests. Rumors of his return and plans to revive an even stronger army start spreading among the Good. Humans and Elves participate in different activities and games to strengthen the ties between them, but suspicion and fear lurks beneath the surface. Who can you trust, when darkness threatens to return?
Combat and strategy: Both Saturday and Sunday will have massive, unexpected battles, where participants on both sides can sign up to fight. The Game Master will be at the center of the area, where he controls the battles and informs the participants. The palisades, built from recycled materials, will serve as both protection and strategic points of the battles.
Special elements:
-
Participants can buy tickets that include the option of revival during the battles, which adds excitement to the strategy.
-
There will be secret missions and assignments that players can participate in to uncover dark alliances or gather resources for the battles.
-
A fateful confrontation with the Necromancer can happen, and the players must decide if they will cooperate or act on their own agendas, which can change the outcome of the game.
Goal: Participants must navigate complex relations, fight against new and old foes, and find ways to strengthen their alliances, while they face the threat of darkness that’s ready to break free from the shadows of the forests.
This plot will give the players the option of exploring deep characters and interactions, while engaging in strategies and actions that can change the course of the story.
Plot for the Good: Light in the Darkness
Background: Following the tragic incident at Helm’s Deep, the Forces of Good, including Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, are united in a new alliance. They have made a pact to protect Middle-earth against the dark power that’s still lurking. An old Elf named Elenion has discovered a hidden artefact – a crystal that can amplify their powers and possibly fight the Necromancer.
Goal: The Good must find the three keys required to activate the crystal. Each key is hidden in a dangerous area protected by mysterious creatures or hidden traps. The participants will have to travel through enchanted forests, old ruins, and deep caves, where they must cooperate to overcome obstacles and protect each other.
Conflict: Along the way, participants will encounter dark forces trying to sabotage their mission. They must also navigate mistrust between them and old disputes between the different races, while they work towards the common goal.
Climax: In the final battle, the Good must confront the Necromancer and his horde of resurrected warriors, where they will need the activated crystal to strengthen their powers and save Middle-earth from eternal darkness.
Plot for the Evil: The Defense of the Forest
Background: After his banishment, the Necromancer retreated to the depths of the forest. Here, he has formed an alliance with the dark creatures of the forest – trolls, ghosts, and shadow creatures – who are angry about the interference of the Forces of Good in their homeland.
Goal: The Necromancer plans to form a new army by turning the creatures of the forest into his subjects. He’s looking for a magical artefact that’s hidden deep in the forest. It will allow him to control all the creatures of the forest and will be able to recreate his forces from before the Battle of Helm’s Deep.
Conflict: To find the artefact, the Necromancer must overcome the protective spirits and ancient beings that guard it. He must also deal with strife among the dark creatures, as some seek to act independently of him and are unwilling to submit to his will.
Climax: In the final battle, the Necromancer and his horde will confront the Forces of Good that wish to stop him. It will not only be a battle for survival, but also for control of the forest and its power. If the Necromancer succeeds in his plan, he will also propel Middle-earth into a new era of darkness and terror.
These plots allow for dynamic interactions between the Good and Evil and offers a rich narrative structure that can be explored in the game.
